Driver Kills Himself Following Police Chase

A man killed himself following a police chase Thursday that went through two Kansas counties.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the incident began about 12:45 p.m. Thursday when a trooper tried to stop a speeding vehicle on US-56 highway in Edwards County.

The vehicle was occupied by a male driver and a female passenger, technical trooper Mike Racy said in a news release.

When the maroon Chevy Impala sped up, the trooper initiated a pursuit.

The driver began shooting out of his window at the trooper. The chase continued into Pawnee County and into the town of Garfield, where the man shot and hit a Pawnee County patrol vehicle, Racy said.

About 12:54 p.m., a Pawnee County deputy attempted to intervene. The patrol car went into the east ditch and rolled, trapping the deputy. …
