New Castle Man Pleads Guilty to Sex Trafficking

A New Castle man has admitted that he acted as a pimp in a federal sex-trafficking case involving a 14-year-old girl transported from Pennsylvania to Ohio to work as a prostitute.

Ronald Hartman, 27, pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of sex trafficking of a minor and faces sentencing in December.

He and another New Castle man, David Monrean, 24, were indicted in January in U.S. District Court, the latest defendants to be charged in a series of sex-trafficking cases brought by the U.S. attorney in this district in recent years.

Cracking down on trafficking of children for commercial sex is one of the priorities of the Justice Department.

During a seminar earlier this summer at the federal courthouse, acting U.S. Attorney Soo Song and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica Smolar recounted numerous local cases and said more investigations are underway. …
