St. Louis adds jobs in July * After a spring slump, the St. Louis job market appears to be having a strong summer. Metro area employers added 2,500 jobs in July, according to seasonally adjusted figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

That follows a gain of 1,900 jobs in June, which was revised downward from an earlier estimate of 2,400. The metro area lost a total of 11,500 jobs in March, April and May.

Employment in metro St. Louis has risen by 12,900, or 0.9 percent, since July 2016. U.S. payrolls grew 1.5 percent in the same 12 months.

Service industries continue to account for most of the region's job growth. Professional and business service firms added 5,500 jobs in the latest 12 months, social-assistance employers added 3,900 and leisure and hospitality firms added 3,300. …
