Manitoba says it's receiving air support from Newfoundland and Labrador and 13 firefighters from Minnesota to help fight the 165 wildfires burning in the province.

An update issued this afternoon says lightning continues to start new fires throughout the province as hot, dry temperatures are keeping fire danger levels elevated in most forested areas.

It says fire crews continue to make good progress on the suppression of a wildfire north of Flin Flon while a wildfire in northwestern Manitoba continues to burn about two kilometres from the Saskatchewan community of Kinoosao.

Fire crews and staff from the Office of the Fire Commissioner have set up pumps and sprinklers to protect about 30 structures in the community. (The Canadian Press)

SaskPower says the latest electricity meter fire in Regina broke out in a device that had already been inspected.

The Crown corporation says it was the eighth meter fire in the city since mid-July and is blaming all of them on shifting ground due to dry conditions.

It says that as a result, it's going to recheck 426 electricity meters in the city.

The company estimates there are nine-thousand homes that need to be inspected. (CTV Regina)

Under the Public Lands Act, anyone caught dumping garbage on public lands can be ordered to remediate the land or face fines as high as 100-thousand dollars. (CBC)
