Police have laid manslaughter charges in the death of a three-year-boy last March from a First Nation southeast of Brantford.

Twenty-five-year-old Madeline Lee Froman and 27-year-old John Paul Smoke Junior were arrested yesterday on Six Nations of the Grand River Territory.

They've been charged with manslaughter, along with a number of firearm and drug offences, after Torrence Vanevery of Six Nations was found unresponsive on March 6th and pronounced dead at a Brantford area hospital.

The Canadian National Exhibition is assuring visitors worried about yesterday's terror attack in Spain that a "robust" security plan is in place.

C-E-O Virginia Ludy say steps were taken to secure the perimeter and grounds and to monitor, control and restrict vehicle access to the site in Toronto in light of earlier terror attacks in London and Paris.

She says in a statement that they're also working with intelligence agencies, Toronto police and have hired security consultants to protect patrons throughout all 18 days of the exhibition, which opened today.

Ludy also expressed condolences to the victims of yesterday's van attack that claimed 13 lives and left more than 100 injured in Barcelona. (The Canadian Press, 680News)



Police do not believe any criminal wrongdoing was involved after a pickup truck crashed into a mall in Richmond Hill today.

At least three people were taken to hospital with minor injuries after the truck smashed into a hair salon at the Hillcrest Mall.

York Regional Police Constable Laura Nicolle says the driver of the vehicle may have suffered a medical episode before the crash.

Nicolle says the salon suffered extensive damage but the accident could have been a lot worse. …
