A police union official in Spain says he has been told that Moussa Oukabir, one of the main suspects in the Barcelona and Cambrils van attacks, was one of the men shot dead by officers in Cambrils early Friday.

Spanish media are also reporting that the 17-year-old Oukabir was killed, and say he is the driver of the van that plowed into scores of pedestrians in Barcelona -- killing 13 people and wounding 120 others.

Spanish authorities say Canada is among 34 countries with citizens killed or injured in the Barcelona attack.

That's been confirmed by Global Affairs, but it isn't saying if Canadians were killed or injured -- only that Canadians were affected. (13)

There's another high-profile departure from the White House.

After seven months as President Donald Trump's chief strategist, today is Steve Bannon's last day on the job.

Trump has accepted Bannon's resignation, making him the latest member of the administration to depart in turmoil.

Bannon was a key adviser in Trump's election campaign, but has been a contentious presence in the White House.

He was the man behind some of Trump's most controversial efforts, including the Muslim travel ban and the decision to leave the Paris climate accord. (13)

Officials in Sierra Leone say the death toll from torrential mudslides this week in the capital Freetown has climbed to 450.

Up to 600 others are still missing, four days after a heavy storm triggered the disaster.
