Dog Rescued in House Fire in West-Central Topeka

A dog was rescued in a Saturday night fire that caused an estimated $20,000 damage to a home in west-central Topeka, authorities said.

The blaze was reported just past 9:30 p.m. at a residence at 1241 S.W. High.

Topeka Fire Department officials said first-arriving crews found smoke coming from the two-story, wooden-frame home.

Firefighters initiated an offensive attack, and an interior search revealed no people were inside.

A dog was found, and firefighters carried the animal outside to safety.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze and prevented it from spreading to other nearby structures.

A Topeka Fire Department investigator was called to the scene to determine the origin and cause of the blaze.
