Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has confirmed that one Canadian was killed and four others were injured in the terror attack in Barcelona.

Trudeau confirmed the news in a statement this afternoon, saying he hopes for the speedy recovery of the injured.

He says he and his wife, Sophie, extend their condolences to the friends and families in mourning.

Thirteen people were killed and more than 100 people were injured when a van plowed through pedestrians in a crowded tourist area yesterday. (16)



The conservative website Breitbart News has issued a dramatic one-word warning after its former leader's ouster from the White House.

Senior editor Joel Pollak tweeted simply "WAR," in all caps, after Steve Bannon was pushed out as chief strategist today.

Bannon was a blunt and divisive figure in the Trump administration, admired by those on the far-right edges of the Republican Party.

But he frequently clashed with others in Trump White House, including the president's son-in-law, Jared Kushner. (16)

The mayor of Charlottesville, Virginia, is asking the state to allow the city to remove a Confederate monument that was at the centre of violent demonstrations.

Mayor Mike Singer has called for an emergency meeting of state lawmakers -- a request that was immediately rejected by Virginia's governor.

Signer's statement comes nearly a week after white supremacists descended on the city and violently clashed with counter-protesters.
