The Trump administration is shedding one of its most controversial figures, with the resignation of chief strategist Steve Bannon.

The former head of the controversial website Breitbart News was an important figure in Donald Trump's ascension to the White House.

He was also the driving force behind the president's Muslim travel ban.

A statement from the White House says today is Bannon's last day.

Other top Trump aides have also departed in recent weeks and months. (14)



Spanish media are reporting that the driver of a van that plowed into pedestrians in Barcelona has been killed.

A police union official also says he's been told that the suspect, Moussa Oukabir, was one of those killed during a separate attack in the resort town of Cambrils this morning.

The leading newspaper in Spain's northeastern Catalonia region says beach towns are now installing concrete barriers on popular pedestrian walkways to try to prevent the kind of attack that saw a van plow through tourists walking on the famed Las Ramblas promenade in Barcelona.

Meantime, Global Affairs Canada has not released any details about the Canadians affected by the attacks.

Spanish officials say Canada is among 34 countries whose citizens were among the 13 killed and 120 injured in the Barcelona attack. (14)



Two people are dead and six others are injured after a stabbing attack in western Finland.

The suspect is in custody after being shot, and authorities are looking for others.

It happened today in the city of Turku, about 170 kilometres west of the capital Helsinki. …
