Gridlock Fury as Drivers Are Trapped in Asda Car Park

MOTORISTS were left fuming after being caught in a gridlock after roadworks near the Etihad Stadium caused huge delays.

One driver said it took him an hour and 15 minutes to get out of the car park at Asda's Eastlands branch.

Sections of Alan Turing Way near to the stadium were closed for surfacing work. Pictures showed the area around Asda and the nearby McDonald's on Gibbon Street packed with cars.

Private hire driver James Daunby, from Ashton, had just dropped off a fare at the supermarket when he became caught up in the congestion. He said: "It took me an hour and 15 minutes to get off the car park and away to the side of the Velodrome, we couldn't go through onto Alan Turing Way because they blocked the road.

"People were getting really, really angry. It was just horrendous."
