OLDHAM have moved level on points with SWINTON in the fight to avoid relegation to League 1 after a hardfought 22-22 draw away to Batley.

As was the case in last week's defeat to already-relegated Bradford, Scott Naylor's side started slowly and the Bulldogs raced into an early lead, crossing for four tries inside the first 25 minutes.

Michael Ward's score 15 minutes from the break cut the deficit to 16 points for Roughyeds and the visitors were well aware that the steep slope at the Fox's Biscuits Stadium often leads to markedly different results in each half, using it to their advantage in the second period.

Tries from Sammy Gee, Ben Morris and Adam Clay levelled the scores and secured what could turn out to be a priceless point for Oldham.

It was Swinton's turn to host the Bulls at Heywood Road, but Stuart Littler's side could not reproduce the heroics that saw them pick up an away win at Odsal last month in the coach's first game in charge. …
