Head Hails 'Amazing Young People' Following Tragedy

AT the heart of the vision of The Blue Coat School in Oldham is a simple motto: 'Faith, vision and nurture.' .

The school is recognised as outstanding by Ofsted and by the community it serves.

Headteacher Julie Hollis' simple yet inspiring approach to 'be the best you can be' seems to be a winning formula for staff and pupils.

Highlights from this academic year include six pupils being offered places at Oxford and Cambridge, and youngster Tim Winters' selection for the nuclear programme by Rolls Royce.

Sadly, the school was directly touched by the terrorist atrocity at Manchester Arena on May 22, which claimed the lives of two parents.

Ms Hollis said staff and pupils had rallied together following the tragedy, adding: "They are amazing young people.

"The commitment our young people show to their community is extraordinary, particularly following the Manchester Arena atrocity where two of our parents were killed. …
