Man Injured in Firetruck Strike

A man was taken to a hospital early Tuesday when the pickup truck he was driving struck a fire truck that was responding to an earlier rain-related accident on Interstate 35 near Ottawa in Franklin County, authorities said.

The incident occurred at 6:28 a.m. on northbound I-35, about a mile south of 15th and on the southeast edge of Ottawa.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2000 Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling north on I-35 when it went off the roadway for about 150 feet then came back onto the road, where it struck a fire truck that was assisting with a separate accident and traffic control.

The driver of the pickup truck, Max Obediah Combes, 21, of Waverly, was reported possibly injured and was transported to Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa. …
