Canada names roster for FIBA AmeriCup tourney

TORONTO - Centre Joel Anthony, guard Brady Heslip and forward Andrew Nicholson headline the Canadian senior men's national team roster for the upcoming FIBA AmeriCup in Argentina.

Anthony, a free agent from Montreal, played for the San Antonio Spurs last season. Heslip, from Oakville, Ont., plays for Raptors 905 of the NBA G-League while Nicholson most recently played for the Brooklyn Nets and is now with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Canada will open play Sunday against the U.S. Virgin Islands in Bahia Blanca. The tournament, which features 12 teams from the Americas, continues through Sept. 3.

"The FIBA AmeriCup 2017 will be a great first step for our program towards our ultimate goal of qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games," head coach Jay Triano said Tuesday in a release. …
