Six Recognized for Their Contributions to Topeka Civic Theatre at Awards Event Thursday

Topeka Civic Theatre recognized six individuals Thursday evening for their contributions to the local theater and cultural life in the capital city.

Vickie Brokke, TCT's president and CEO, and Jeri Hansen, board chair, presented awards during the annual ceremony.

Larry and Anita Wolgast received the Waldo B. Heywood Award, which was first presented 60 years ago and recognizes "significant leadership in the arts," according to Kerrice Mapes, the theater's marketing director. Larry Wolgast was elected mayor of Topeka in 2013 and Anita Wolgast co-founded the NOTO Arts District.

The TNT Award was given to Roger Brokke and WIBW. It recognizes a business that has supported the theater.

John Olsen received the Marge Selby Workhorse Award. It's given to honor a board member. Olsen has served on the board of directors for seven years, and in 2013 joined the executive committee. …
