Foreign Assistance Enhances U.S. Security

Article excerpt

Every day, threats of violence dominate the news cycle and make it seem as if America is never safe.Unfortunately I worry that these threats of violence will only increase if we cut the foreign affairs budget.Foreign assistance is not just the right thing to do; it makes us safer.

Our military leaders will be the first to tell you that development is critical to preventing threats from forming - and less costly in money and lives than military interventions later.

America will always be a target. Our military is the greatest in the world, but to fully protect our country we need to stay ahead of the game.As the current secretary of defense, retired Gen. The United States of America is the greatest nation in the world - strong, resilient, indomitable. It has survived the Civil War, two World Wars, the Great Depression, the Korean and Vietnam wars, the violence of the 1960s, Watergate, 9/11, innumerable political quacks and demagogues and the 2016 presidential election. …
