HIGH-FLYING girls topped the tables with their outstanding grades at Bolton School.

Leaders at the school say the percentage of papers graded A*-B and A*-C improved this year in the Girls' Division.

More than three-quarters of grades were in the A*-B range, up from 72.4pc last year to 76.6pc this year.

There was a similar improvement in the percentage of A*-C grades, up from 89.3pc to 93.3pc this year.

Five girls students were successful in their Oxford and Cambridge applications.

Francesca Adams will study natural sciences at Murray Edwards College at Cambridge and Anjali Anicatt will study history at St John's College at Oxford.

Georgina Owen, who captained the North of England lacrosse team, juggled her sporting commitments with study to achieve two A*s and an A and heads off to study mathematics at Bristol. …
