More than $165,000 was raised under a tent on the tarmac of the Allegheny County Airport to benefit Pittsburgh Aviation Animal Rescue Team (PAART) on Saturday night. The nonprofit offers air and ground rescue to at-risk dogs and cats from natural disasters, overcrowded shelters in Puerto Rico and animals in the Korean dog meat trade.

It was founded in 2012 by Brad Childs and Jonathan Plesset and 6,200 animals have been rescued since then.

"Tonight, 600 people came together to save thousands of dogs, and that's a really special thing," said Mr. Plesset, co-founder of PAART and owner of the Shadyside Inn. Guests had a chance to visit dogs from the South Hills Pet Rescue who were in a very spacious climate-controlled disaster relief transport trailer. …
