Winger Looks to Trigger One-Year Extension at Old Trafford

ASHLEY Young is expected to stay at United beyond Thursday's transfer deadline, despite interest from Premier League clubs.

M.E.N. Sport understands United's valuation of the 32-year-old has put off potential buyers from signing Young, who has entered the last year of his contract at Old Trafford.

Young only returned from a three-and-a-half month lay-off for the reserves against Swansea last week and it is believed he will ask United to trigger their option of an additional year in his deal.

The former Aston Villa winger did not travel with the second string to Tottenham on Friday night and is expected to make his first-team comeback next month.

"Young will be earlier than Luke," United manager Jose Mourinho said. "There are seven matches to play in September in three different competitions, sometimes just two days between matches, so we need our squad. …
