JOSE Mourinho has promised United's fringe players they will get playing time once the cup competitions start.

Victor Lindelof was omitted from the matchday squad for the second time this month against Leicester on Saturday - while Andreas Pereira and Michael Carrick have failed to make the bench since the Premier League campaign began.

United have seven fixtures in September, including their first two Champions League group games and the Carabao Cup tie against Burton, and Mourinho has urged United's peripheral players to remain patient.

"I will be very happy when the Champions League and League Cup start," Mourinho said.

"Because then I'll have more games and more opportunities to give all of my players the gametime they deserve.

"As ever, all the boys are working hard.

"It might be easy for people to praise the ones who have done so well in the opening games of the season, but I prefer to praise the amazing professionals who are not playing at the moment. …
