Order Lifts Rules for Relief Effort

Republican Gov. Sam Brownback has waived some regulations and fees for motor carriers traveling to Texas to assist in Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

Brownback issued an executive order Wednesday aimed at helping commercial vehicles that are "directly participating in relief and restoration" in areas of Texas affected by the hurricane.

"Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with Texas," Brownback said in a news release. "Their neighbors here in Kansas are ready to assist."

According to the release issued by Brownback's office, the Kansas National Guard is on standby in case it is called to assist with relief efforts. Kansas also participates in the Emergency Management Assistance Compact.
