Toronto District School Board trustees have voted to temporarily suspend a controversial program that saw police oficers patrol some schools.

Last night's vote placed the School Resource Officer program on hold while it undergoes a review.

The Toronto Police Services Board had voted last week to have Ryerson University review the program, with an interim report due in January.

The program began in 2008 and was designed to improve relations between students and police but critics argue it has done the opposite by marginalizing school communities. (Global)


(Body Found Barrie)

An investigation is underway after a body was found decomposing near a Barrie pond.

Police launched a search late Tuesday after a call about a body in the marsh area of Dyments Pond.

Officers found the body, which they believe is that of a woman.

Police have not yet identified the body, but don't believe it is connected to any ongoing missing persons investigations. (CTV Barrie)


(Teen Dies Harvey)

A Hamilton woman is raising money to bring the body of her teen nephew home from Jamaica after he drowned in a river swollen by Hurricane Harvey.

Nineteen-year-old Garnet Haley died last week while he, his sister and father visited family.

His aunt, Keelie Young, says her nephew's father left him by a river for a few minutes and when he returned, he had vanished.

Young says the river was much higher and faster than usual because of the reach of the storm, which has also slammed Texas and Louisiana.

Young says her grieving family is buoyed by the outpouring of support from friends and family who have donated more than 12-thousand dollars to a Go Fund Me account which seeks to 20-thousand dollars. (The Hamilton Spectator)
