THIS is the moment high-flyer Emily Cavanagh realised she'd scooped the GCSE results she'd been dreaming of.

Emily, from Norden, Rochdale, was the only pupil at Oulder Hill Community School pupil to gain two grade 9s in the new, tougher maths and English GCSE exams.

The 15-year-old shed tears of joy as she opened her results of two 9s, five A*s and four As. The impressive grades turned out to be the perfect birthday present for Emily, who turned 16 on Saturday.

Aspiring actress Emily, who is one of the youngest in her year, said: "I'm ecstatic really.

"It's amazing to get through the haze of confusion with the new GCSEs and tougher marking. To come out with two 9s is incredible. At times I went a little overboard with my revision.

"Some days I would get up at 4am to revise for exams and at times it had a backwards effect on my performance.

"But I think it all paid off in the end."

Emily will take on A levels in English literature, English language, theatre studies and critical thinking at Holy Cross College in Bury. …
