Sanam's Top Marks after Winning Deportation Battle

A SCHOOLGIRL who fought being deported to Afghanistan so she could stay with her family in Manchester has triumphed in her GCSEs.

Sanam Ghani, 16, had the ongoing stress of potentially being sent back to Afghanistan while studying at Manchester Enterprise Academy(MEA) in Wythenshawe.

Teachers at MEA worked with Amnesty International and Sanam's family's legal team to support their application to stay in the UK.

Their campaign was successful, and on Thursday more celebrations were in order after Sanam discovered her hard work had paid off.

Sanam notched up an impressive string of GCSE results consisting of A*s, As and Bs.

James Eldon, principal at MEA and chief executive of the Altius Trust, said Sanam was a credit to her family and the school. …
