Man Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries

A man suffered what police described as potentially life-threatening injuries early Tuesday in a one-car crash in south Topeka.

The crash was reported at 4:07 a.m. in the 3300 block of S. Kansas Avenue.

Police Lt. Andrew Beightel said at the scene that a four-door Buick was northbound on S. Kansas Avenue when the driver lost control.

Beightel said the car appeared to have slid sideways across the southbound lane and struck a curb before possibly going airborne.

The car then slammed into a brick office building at 3301 S. Kansas Ave., taking out two windows and causing "slight structural damage," Beightel said.

The mangled car came to rest facing east in a grassy area on the east side of the building. Debris from the car was strewn near the crash site. The Topeka Fire Department had to extricate the driver from the car. …
