TWO peacocks have been ruffling feathers after suddenly appearing in a quiet residential street.

The birds showed up at the Prestwich home of Hugh and Christine MacLeod on Monday and have been hanging around their garden and perching on the kitchen roof ever since.

The MacLeods don't know where the birds came from, but now believe they could be someone's pets.

The couple initially thought they might have escaped from the animal centre at nearby Heaton Park.

However, park staff say they are not missing any birds from their centre. Andrew Day, from the council-run park, says the birds may or may not be ones which lived there in the past.

However Andrew and his colleagues have offered to take the peacocks into the park if the couple can catch them, but say there are no guarantees they will then stay put because peacocks are 'roaming birds. …
