Man Injured When Company Van Crashes

A man was taken to a local hospital early Wednesday afternoon after he lost control of the company van he was driving, ran up and over a concrete median, and crashed the vehicle in East Topeka, police said at the scene.

The crash was reported at 12:50 p.m. at S.E. 13th and California Avenue.

Police at the scene said a preliminary investigation indicated a Ford van owned by Topeka Heating & Cooling had been traveling east on Interstate 70 and was exiting onto California Avenue when the driver lost control.

The van veered off the exit ramp just short of S.E. California Avenue, then traveled over a grassy area to the south, clipping the edge of a large, wooden power pole, police said.

The van continued in a southeasterly direction, crossing both southbound lanes in the 1200 block of California Avenue.

The van hit a concrete median and continued over it, traveling to the southeast across both northbound lanes of California. …
