Trump Nominates Washburn Law Alum for a Federal District Judgeship

Washburn Law graduate and Wichita attorney John Broomes has been nominated by President Donald Trump to become a district judge on the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas, the White House announced Thursday.

Broomes is an attorney at Hinkle Law Firm, LLC, which has offices in Wichita and Overland Park, and specializes in oil and gas law, according to the firm's website.

Before his law career, Broomes attended the University of Texas at Austin, graduating with high honors in 1991. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Submarine Force and received several awards. He graduated first in his class from Washburn University School of Law in 2002 and obtained a certificate in natural resource law.
