WINNIPEG. x-08s. The pressure is starting to ease on two large emergency shelters for people evacuated from forest fires in northern Manitoba. Some 750 people are being flown back to Poplar River First Nation this week, as the fire situation has improved. Evacuees from other communities are finding more hotel rooms open in Winnipeg and Brandon now that summer tourist season is over. Shawn Feely, with the Canadian Red Cross, says the hotel rooms are being given to the elderly, people with young children and others.
