WINNIPEG. x-11s. The Canadian Red Cross is shutting down one of two emergency shelters for Manitoba forest fire evacuees. The agency says more hotel rooms in Winnipeg have become available, so the large shelter at the Winnipeg Convention Centre that was opened a week ago is no longer needed. It's been more than a week since people in three communities had to flee their homes because of forest fires. Grand Chief Sheila North Wilson, who represents northern Manitoba First Nations, says it's not right that people in one community had to flee in boats because they don't have an airstrip.
