Governor Urges Devos Not to Rewrite Title IX Rules on Campus Assaults

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf has a message for Betsy DeVos on the subject of rewriting federal rules for dealing with sexual assault on campuses: Please don't.

In a personal letter to the U.S. education secretary, Mr. Wolf implored Ms. DeVos and her colleagues in the federal Education Department not to rewrite Obama-era guidelines for Title IX enforcement that the governor says have encouraged colleges and other schools to be more transparent and focused on policies to prevent and punish sexual misconduct.

Mr. Wolf said he was writing as an elected official and the father of two daughters.

"Every day, young people enter school classrooms and attend college with a purpose: pursuing an education that will lay the foundation for a rewarding life," he wrote. " We have no greater responsibility as public servants and leaders -whether a governor or Secretary of Education -to help the next generation in this worthwhile endeavor. …
