An Australian child psychiatrist has avoided jail for child pornography offences that took place around the globe, including a bathroom at West Edmonton Mall.

News outlets in Australia report that a judge in Perth handed Aaron Voon an 18-month suspended sentence on eight charges involving production and possession of child porn.

Voon earlier pleaded guilty in his home country to nine offences that occurred in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

Court was told the 42-year-old was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome and obsessive-compulsive disorder, and has a fascination with toilets and urination. (The Canadian Press)

A central Alberta man accused of killing his parents and his sister has failed to persuade a judge to toss the case.

Lawyers for Jason Klaus had argued in Red Deer provincial court last month that it took too long for his trial to go ahead under rules set out by the Supreme Court of Canada.

But the application has been denied. Klaus, who is 41, is charged with first-degree murder and arson in the deaths of his parents, Gordon and Sandra Klaus, and his sister Monica Klaus.

Police believe all three died in a house fire in Castor, Alberta, in December 2013. (RD News Now)

An organizer says an anti-immigration rally planned for Winnipeg today has been cancelled, but other says that two counter rallies will still go ahead.

The Worldwide Coalition Against Islam Canada had planned to hold a march through downtown Winnipeg.

But vice-president Jesse Wielenga tells CTV News that the march has been called off because of backlash he's had to deal with.

Two other anti-hate groups say they will go ahead with their plans to hold rallies today. (CTV Winnipeg)
