EDERSON is mentally ready to play for City in Rotterdam after passing a stiff training-ground test.

The goalkeeper has eight stitches in a facial wound he picked up in the collision with Liverpool striker Sadio Mane on Saturday.

But after initially being a doubt for the opening Champions League game against Feyenoord, he has trained with a Petr Cech-style scrum cap and is now very much in the reckoning.

And Pep Guardiola said that they deliberately tested him in City's last training session at the City Football Academy before flying out.

He had players pumping long balls towards the Brazilian stopper, placing him under pressure to test his reaction after the sickening collision which saw him stretchered off and Mane sent off.

Guardiola said that he could understand why there might be a mental problem for his keeper after such a collision, but added: "In today's training session there were two or three long balls and he was there. …
