Mother May Face Charges in Killing of 6-Year-Old Older Son Shot His Younger Brother

The mother of a 10-year-old West Mifflin boy who fatally shot his 6-year-old brother will likely be charged with endangering the welfare of a child and could face additional charges as the investigation continues, Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala Jr. said Thursday.

The DA said that he has already authorized the endangerment charge but that the investigation is ongoing because there is evidence the 29-year-old mother might have been taking her 10-year-old son's prescribed medication and selling it on the streets.

She has not been criminally charged.

The 10-year-old boy, who has been diagnosed with multiple psychiatric disorders, fired one shot with his mother's gun on Aug. 9 inside the family's trailer in the New Colony Mobile Home Park and killed his brother, Julian Hoffman.

The two boys were home alone at the time. …
