AS TV series go, there seem few more suited to stage adaptation than the theatrical 60s cult classic The Addams Family and the UK premiere of the musical comedy doesn't disappoint.

The show at The Lowry, Salford, kicks off with the iconic theme tune, which gets everyone clicking their fingers as we're introduced to the Addams in all their macabre marvellousness, backed up by a spectacular set.

The story centres on Wednesday Addams, daughter of the ghoulish looking Gomez and creepily softlyspoken Morticia, and her until now secret love affair with a wholesome all-American boy type, worryingly 'normal' given the Addams' sinister leanings.

Carrie Hope Fletcher as Wednesday pulls off the role with aplomb, showcasing some great vocals, and Samantha Womack, of Eastenders fame, as Morticia, gets the balance just right between entertaining theatricality and not hamming up the part of the originally laconic character. …
