ANOTHER 200 homes are being planned for Salford's former docklands area.

The development of 188 apartments and eight townhouses is earmarked for Ordsall Lane on the existing site of city firm Selectric.

The development includes retail units and a communal landscaped piazza - and comes after 750 homes were recently given the go-ahead in the area.

Andrew Rae, of Fletcher-Rae, which has designed the proposed development, said: "It is predominantly planned in red brick, referencing the Victorian buildings in the area, with grey cladding incorporated on the top floors, a striking contrast to visually reduce the scale of the building.

"There's two distinctive blocks and the spaces inbetween the two buildings have been carefully crafted to provide private terraces, as well as a hard and soft landscaped courtyard."

Profits from the investment will enable Selectric, which makes plugs and sockets, to move to a purposebuilt business and manufacturing premises.
