Build-A-Bear Closes Store at St. Louis Zoo, New Retail Spaces Planned

There's one less place to buy stuffed penguins and teddy bears at the St. Louis Zoo.

The Build-A-Bear Workshop store at the zoo in Forest Park has closed, the Overland-based chain confirmed. It was the only zoo location Build-A-Bear had worldwide.

The closure was not due to poor sales but rather a decision by the zoo, the retailer said.

"After more than a decade of successful operations, we are sad to announce that the Build-A-Bear Workshop location at the Saint Louis Zoo closed permanently on Sept. 10," Build-A-Bear's president and CEO Sharon Price John said in a statement.

"We are disappointed at the zoo's decision to reutilize our store space and disheartened that we were unable to identify a mutually beneficial solution for a new location, despite multiple efforts," her statement continued. …
