The state's largest prison was on lockdown for a time following a fight between inmates that occurred early Friday afternoon, the Kansas Department of Corrections announced Friday.

Inmates at Lansing Correctional Facility, the largest and oldest in the state prison system facing turmoil this summer, fought in the maximum-security dining room, according to a news release. KDOC spokesman Samir Arif said the fight lasted about 30 minutes and led to maximum-security inmates being placed on lockdown.

"Staff responded immediately to quell the altercation," the release said.

Arif said no inmates or staff members were hurt and that KDOC will investigate the fight. He said he didn't know how many inmates were involved.

"It's a dramatically smaller event than some of the previous events," Arif said. …
