INSPIRAL CARPETS The band Inspiral Carpets formed in Oldham in 1983.

Although this was before the Madchester era, they epitomised Manchester and later became an integral part of the scene.

Noel Gallagher worked as a roadie for Inspiral Carpets up until 1992. He got the job after he auditioned to sing for the band but failed to get the job.

In 1987, Manchester-based Debris Magazine promoted the band by giving away the single Garage Full of Flowers for free. The release of the EP Planecrash followed in 1988.

In 1989, Inspiral Carpets set up their own label, Cow Records. They released a few singles which charted outside the top 40.

The band signed with Mute Records in 1990. A successful album release followed with Life reaching number two and the single This is How it Feels reaching number 14.

The follow up album - The Beast Inside - reached number five but failed to produce a top 20 hit single. …
