Mum Admits Manslaughter of 'Stranger' Hit by Tram

A YOUNG mother admitted killing a stranger who was hit by a moving tram in the centre of Manchester.

Charissa Brown-Wellington, 31, pleaded guilty to manslaughter during a brief hearing at Manchester Crown Court yesterday.

Brown-Wellington, who lives in Oldham, admitted unlawfully killing Philip Carter, a 30-year-old labourer from north Manchester who was fatally injured at Victoria station, at about 7.50pm on Sunday, June 11.

She will be sentenced at the same court next month, and was remanded into custody.

Brown-Wellington, who wore a black coat and had her dark hair tied in a ponytail, spoke only to confirm her plea.

She waved and blew kisses to members of her family as she was sent down. The court heard that the prosecution accepted her guilty plea to manslaughter. …
