Man Is Stabbed in Neck as He Arrives at Mosque

A MAN was attacked as he arrived at a mosque for evening prayers.

The victim, who is in 58, was outside the Altrincham and Hale Muslim Association, on Grove Lane, Altrincham, when someone approached him from behind and stabbed him in the back of the neck.

Some worshippers were already inside the mosque when the incident happened at 5.50pm last night.

GMP confirmed the incident is being treated as a hate crime, and that two men aged 54 and 32 had been arrested in connection with the attack.

They remain in police custody for questioning.

Assistant Chief Constable Russ Jackson, said: "'This is a very nasty and unprovoked attack against a much loved local man.

"There will be increased police presence in the area in the coming days to reassure local people."

The incident comes as the M.E.N. launches a campaign to stamp out hatred and promote tolerance. …
