Ineffable Ca Fe opened in August as a Vietnamese coffee bar at 3920 Penn Ave. in Lower Lawrenceville, but it's as much a draw for sandwich geeks.

For breakfast there's an egg on brioche layered with cheese and a generous serving of bacon, while the sweet banh mi bo duong is a warm baguette dressed with butter and sugar. Come 11 a.m., the menu steps up the sandwiches, with four versions of banh mi - braised pork belly, marinated pork, grilled lemongrass chicken, and fried tofu - each for about $8, served with cucumber, pickled carrot and daikon, jalapeno, and cilantro.

Though Ineffable Ca Fe is fast-casual ordering, there's plenty of room to spread out, with couches, communal tables, bar seating, outdoor tables and traditional tables-and-chair setups. …
