A woman has told a public inquiry about the ongoing losses she has suffered following the death of her mother, whose naked body was found along B-C's Highway of Tears in 1978.

Vicki Hill says her mother Mary Jane Hill couldn't take part in the special occasions in the lives of her family members because she was killed at age 31.

Hill was the first family member to testify at the national inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women when the hearings began today in Smithers, B-C.

Hill, who was comforted by her own teenage daughter as she spoke, says she was only six months old when her mother died and she has no memories of her. (The Canadian Press)

The U-S Federal Aviation Administration says the plane climbed nearly 122 metres after the pilot reported seeing a glider about 120 kilometres from Chicago's airport. (The Canadian Press)
