Friendship Perk & Brew opened this week at 300 S. Pacific Ave. with a focus on craft coffee and beer. It's a passion project from JoAnn Redondo, a retired nurse, and Nick Redondo, who used to train pilots for US Airways.

For coffee nerds, the shop sells Kiva Han coffee brewed via Clover, the high-end one-cup brewer that allows for precise customization. There's also nitro coffee and a nitro beer tap. Customers can choose from four rotating drafts and a collection of bottled and canned craft brews. No wine is for sale at the moment.

The former house and 7-Eleven was gutted and renovated to include a newly built-out kitchen. There, Jim Luttner fries pickles for an appetizer, roasts chicken for sandwiches, and simmers stock for wedding soup layered with tiny meatballs and escarole, a Redondo recipe. The chalkboard menu also lists pretzel bread, salads, and a steak sandwich layered with sliced ribeye, gorgonzola and horseradish mayo on a hoagie roll for $12. …
