Observers say the R-C-M-P's Labour Code trial stemming from a New Brunswick shooting rampage has laid bare the tensions and toxic culture within Canada's national police force. The R-C-M-P has pleaded not guilty to failing to provide officers with the appropriate equipment and training after Justin Bourque's 2014 shooting spree that left three officers dead and two injured. University of New Brunswick professor Greg Marquis (mar-KEY'), who wrote a book about Canadian policing history, says the trial has provided an unprecedented glimpse how police policy is developed, and has shone a spotlight on clashes within the force over the rollout of the C-8 patrol carbine.
