CALGARY. x-12s. Alberta Environment Minister Shannon Phillips says a female grizzly bear that wandered from the province into British Columbia, where it was shot by a hunter, was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hunting grizzlies in Alberta is illegal, but the bears are fair game in B-C until a trophy ban goes into effect at the end of November. Bear 148 was moved from a popular developed area west of Calgary to a remote park north of Jasper in July after getting too close to people, too often. Phillips says the bear was moved because it was a threat to public safety.
