Waking up each morning, I used to feel reasonably assured over the past few decades that the country was being led by someone who, while I may not agree with his tax policies or, at the very worst, his decision to invade another country, was nevertheless politically capable. These former leaders were not likely to knowingly and foolishly stoke divisions between the citizens of the United States, or to purposefully instigate tensions between the U.S. and other world leaders. Now, I ache for a true leader and for any assurance that someday, some kind of saneness will return us to a stable reality - because the reality we currently live is often nightmarishly surreal.

A true leader wouldn't mimic a person who has a disability. A true leader wouldn't deny John McCain's heroism. A true leader wouldn't define even a small percentage of white supremacists as "very fine people. …
