Lampkin Continues Record-Setting Pace for Hermann

Hermann girls volleyball coach Linda Lampkin knew she was close to something special. But she thought she was the only one who knew.

Lampkin won her 900th career match Saturday as Hermann beat Lebanon 25-18, 21-25, 25-23 to claim the Lebanon Tournament title. That is the most wins all-time among girls volleyball coaches in Missouri, according to the Missouri State High School Activities Association.

"I didn't think anybody knew," Lampkin said. "I thought I was the only one that did. My husband was keeping count. But they all knew. After the match all the parents were holding up signs so they knew. I just didn't know they knew."

Lampkin, a Hermann alum, has turned the Bearcats into a state power in her 38 years at the helm. Lampkin's Bearcats have won 12 state titles the most of any school in Missouri and have made 21 final four appearances, including a second place finish last year.

That string of success is not lost on Hermann's population of 2,366.

"As a little girl growing up you always see these girls going to state and it's something you want to do," Hermann senior Symantha Fredrick said. "I remember my eighth-grade year, the last team that won a state championship, waving to them. The whole community gets involved and it's awesome to be a part of."

Given Hermann's small-town environment, Lampkin has coached numerous generations of families. …
