Bombardier has been slapped with nearly 80 per cent in preliminary anti-dumping duties on U-S exports of its C-Series commercial jet.

The Montreal-based company's 100- to 150-seat plane now faces a total tariff of almost 300 per cent when combined with last week's almost 220 per cent countervailing duties imposed by the U-S Department of Commerce.

The rulings follow a complaint by U-S rival Boeing that improper government subsidies are giving Bombardier an unfair advantage when selling its CSeries jets south of the border.

Bombardier didn't immediately respond to the latest duty announcement, but last week said it was confident that the "absurd" and unfounded tariffs will be reversed in final decisions in the coming months. (11)

The Trudeau government is countering accusations that it's to blame for the loss of the Energy East pipeline by listing other projects that have gone ahead under its watch.

The Conservative opposition continued to attack the Liberals today over TransCanada's decision to abandon the pipeline project from Alberta to Atlantic Canada.

Natural Resources Minister Jim Carr read off three other major projects -- including the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion from Alberta to B-C -- that have all been approved and are creating thousands of jobs.

The premiers of Alberta and New Brunswick have expressed disappointment at the loss of Energy East, but Quebec politicians and Indigenous and environmental groups are glad it's scrapped. (11)

Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Carolyn Bennett became emotional today as she announced an agreement in principle to give 750-million dollars in compensation to survivors of the 60's Scoop.

The federal government has agreed to pay the money to survivors for the harm suffered by Indigenous children when they were taken away from their families and given to non-native caregivers. …
