I feel so sad for the victims and loved ones of the Las Vegas tragedy. After yet another mass shooting by an American gunman, the press and our "leaders" again conduct a fruitless inquiry into the perpetrator's motive. Was he a terrorist, jilted spouse, disgruntled employee? Does it matter? As always, what only matters is the gunman's unfettered access to firearms and his intent: to use firearms to inflict death and suffering on innocents.It is the desperate act of a desolate soul, whatever the motive.

Our "leaders," modern-day Pontius Pilates in suits, will offer prayers. They are the real faces of those who cling to their guns and religion. They offer clever slogans: "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun." Clever indeed, but an intellectually lazy argument.

So is it now acceptable for innocent Americans to suffer casualties until good guys with guns kill the enemy among us? …
